Deltona: The City of Deltona Commission honored members of the Deltona Fire Department for the heroic actions that saved the life of an Orange City Public Works employee that was trapped in a trench collapse several weeks ago. The crews from "C" Shift, under the command of Battalion Chief William "Bill" Snyder responded to the incident in Orange City. Engine Company 62, Lt. Bryan Maples, D/E Randy Sievert and FF/EMT Kieth Wyche were the first on scene to find the worker buried in a trench. They quickly jumped into action putting their own lives and safety at risk by entering the collapse and digging the victim out with their bare hands and small hand tools. At one point the victim stopped breathing and they then provided life saving care bringing the victim back to life.
They received help from Deltona Engine Company 65 and Squad 65, Lt. Daniel Bowen, D/E John Moyley and FF/PM John Morgan. They shored up the area and attached safety lines to the other rescuers and to the victim bringing them all to safety. The worker was transported to Halifax Trauma Center in Daytona where he received further care.
We are so proud of the members of the City of Deltona Fire Department who every day serve this community with Pride, Dedication and Honor.
Deltona: This afternoon, The Deltona Fire department held a Pinning Ceremony as two members were promoted and a third fire fighter joined the ranks of the Department. Congratulations to newly promoted Driver Engineer Aaron Quarberg, Battalion Chief Jon Littell and our newest member Fire Fighter Nabicht. Also we would like to take the opportunity to congratulate our newest Lieutenant, Heather Langston. Heather was promoted as well and is assigned to "C' Shift under Battalion Chief Jon Litttell. She was unable to attend the ceremony.
